Wegovy and Zepbound Hair Loss Rates: Label Data
Last checked: October 22, 2026. Sources: WEGOVY prescribing information (revised 6/2026) and ZEPBOUND prescribing information (revised 8/2026). Compiled by Folivis Editorial.
Key figures
In the official U.S. prescribing information, hair loss was reported in 3% of adults on WEGOVY 2.4 mg injection versus 1% on placebo, 6% on WEGOVY 7.2 mg, and 4–5% on ZEPBOUND 5–15 mg versus 1% on placebo. Both labels report hair loss far more often in women than men, and both state that hair loss adverse reactions were associated with weight reduction.
Table 1. Hair loss in adult placebo-controlled weight-reduction trials
| Medicine and dose | Trials (label table) | Hair loss, medicine (N) | Hair loss, placebo (N) |
|---|---|---|---|
| WEGOVY 2.4 mg injection, once weekly | 3 placebo-controlled trials (WEGOVY Table 3) | 3% (2,116) | 1% (1,261) |
| WEGOVY 7.2 mg injection, once weekly | Studies 8 and 9 (WEGOVY Table 4) | 6% (1,311) | 1% (303) |
| WEGOVY 2.4 mg injection, comparator arm in Studies 8 and 9 | Studies 8 and 9 (WEGOVY Table 4) | 3% (304) | 1% (303) |
| ZEPBOUND 5 mg, once weekly | Pooled Studies 1 and 2 (ZEPBOUND Table 1) | 5% (630) | 1% (958) |
| ZEPBOUND 10 mg, once weekly | Pooled Studies 1 and 2 (ZEPBOUND Table 1) | 4% (948) | 1% (958) |
| ZEPBOUND 15 mg, once weekly | Pooled Studies 1 and 2 (ZEPBOUND Table 1) | 5% (941) | 1% (958) |
The table percentages are rounded as printed in each label. The WEGOVY "Hair Loss" subsection gives unrounded figures of 3.3% for 2.4 mg in pooled Studies 2, 3 and 4, and 5.8% for 7.2 mg (versus 3.3% for 2.4 mg and 1.0% for placebo) in the 7.2 mg trials.
Table 2. Hair loss by sex
| Comparison | Medicine: female | Medicine: male | Placebo: female | Placebo: male |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WEGOVY 2.4 mg, pooled Studies 2, 3 and 4 | 4% | 0.9% | 2% | 0 |
| WEGOVY 7.2 mg, Studies 8 and 9 | 8.4% | 0.2% | 1.5% | 0 |
| WEGOVY 2.4 mg comparator, Studies 8 and 9 | 5.4% | 0 | 1.5% | 0 |
| ZEPBOUND (all doses), pooled Studies 1 and 2 | 7.1% | 0.5% | 1.3% | 0% |
Table 3. Adolescents (12 years and older)
| Medicine and dose | Trial (label table) | Hair loss, medicine (N) | Hair loss, placebo (N) |
|---|---|---|---|
| WEGOVY 2.4 mg injection, once weekly | One 68-week pediatric trial (WEGOVY Table 5) | 4% (133) | 0% (67) |
The ZEPBOUND prescribing information reviewed here does not include a pediatric hair loss rate.
Treatment changes because of hair loss
- ZEPBOUND: no ZEPBOUND-treated patients and one placebo-treated patient discontinued study treatment because of hair loss.
- WEGOVY 7.2 mg: 1 hair loss event led to permanent discontinuation, 1 to temporary interruption and 5 to dose reduction. The label reports no such actions in the 2.4 mg or placebo groups of those trials.
WEGOVY tablets
The current WEGOVY label also covers WEGOVY tablets (Study 7). It does not print a separate hair loss rate for the tablets; it states that the types and frequency of common adverse reactions were similar to those listed for the 2.4 mg injection in Table 3.
How to read these numbers
- They are trial adverse reaction rates. They count people who reported hair loss during the studies. They do not identify the type of hair loss or prove that the medicine caused it in a given person.
- Both labels link hair loss to weight reduction. Each label states that hair loss adverse reactions were associated with weight reduction. Neither label names a mechanism.
- Do not rank the medicines from this table. The trials differ in population, duration, dose escalation and weight change, so the rates are not a head-to-head comparison.
- Labels change. Figures here reflect the revisions listed above. Check the current prescribing information before relying on them.
- Talk to your prescriber before changing or stopping a medicine because of hair changes.
